As a professional clairvoyant coach, I am always on the lookout for intuitive signs during my day. However, I also believe that the universe speaks to us in whispers.
Because of this, we must be open to receiving messages in a variety of ways. Otherwise we might miss out on important guidance.
Please know, it can be challenging to spot an intuitive sign. There are times when we may confuse an intuitive message with a simple coincidence. The universe doesn’t purposely try to make it difficult for us to receive these messages. We are on a physical plane, while they are reaching out to us from the spiritual dimension. If you look at it this way, it’s only fair that we would meet them in the middle.
I used to think that if I were really, truly intuitive, receiving guidance would be so simple. I imagined that after waking up in the morning, a beam of opalescent light might shine down upon me. Beautiful, ethereal choral music would play in the background. The beam of light would be followed by a message delivered from my guides in a loud, booming voice.
Basically, I thought that for highly intuitive people the message would be unmistakable.
I cannot speak for anyone else, but this is not how my intuition works for me. When I am giving a reading and receiving messages, I describe the experience as sort of like playing charades with the universe. I will see a series of images in my mind that apply to my own life, which I then interpret as a sign from the universe for what is going on in my client’s life.
In my personal life, I look for signs that repeat throughout the day. For example, I am a color intuitive who believes that color possesses specific qualities. I feel that color is one of the ways the universe can deliver timely messages to us.
I often start the day by thinking about which color is most present in my mind. Let’s say I wake up in the morning and feel drawn to the color green. In this case, I would probably go in my closet and put on a green shirt to heighten this energy within myself. Later in the day, if I meet two friends for lunch and they are both unexpectedly wearing green, I will take this as a repeating sign with a message for me. I see green as the color of creativity and communication, so I might look at whether I am expressing myself fully this week, or if I am holding back creatively in some area. I might take it as a reminder to do something creative, like sitting down to write (one of my favorite forms of creativity).
Receiving a sign from the universe takes practice. The good news is, we can strengthen our intuitive muscle like any other. Have you received any signs lately, or wondered if it is just a coincidence? Let me know in the comments below!

I just received one today. Everytime I watch a show about intuitives a song that had always stopped me in my tracks because I was so entranced comes on. Like “4 non blondes – what’s up” in sense8 or “operator- Jim Croce” on The OA. I’ve been trying to build my business and sometimes I feel a lot of fear. In one of my guided meditations it told me to ground myself in Kelly Green energy. (Kelly is my name). I keep getting them all the time. This email is perfect.
Hi Dougall. Great article about recognizing signs. I’m always paying attention to signs like repeating messages that keep showing up. They get my attention. I’m not able to take your class at this time but did try to sign up for the free one and it asks for an “api” key. Just letting you know there’s a glitch in the system. dear douglas, thanks for your e mail, yes i find sometimes if i have a long standing problem with someone, or with a situation , i will feel moved to tune in to something on the t.v not intending consiously for an answer, or something will present itself as an answer. and synchronicity will often give me the answer to the problem,often through a drama, or the news, giving me insight into how maybe i have created the problem, i like your working with colours, this is very spiritual, the elohim i thinkat the moment i love the deep purple in the flower of the iris. best wishes. avril.
Oh yes! I’ve been receiving information to step up, it’s time! And the colors blue and green keep grabbing my attention, so I’m definitely paying attention to that as well. Thanks for this Dougall, I love the part about playing charades, that’s so true! Lol! Happy day to you!
I love that you put this out here for us to contemplate. Just yesterday I was given an opportunity to give a young man a reading on the fly. We (my husband and I) were having lunch at a local diner when our waiter asked if we were psychic. My husband had given a waitress there a message a few months ago and evidently we have become famous at the diner. Anyway, the messages for the young man came in short intermittent pieces. First I was told he was well loved, later I saw an older man standing by him with a big smile on his face and felt a well of pride going toward the boy, then later, after we had left I was given a name for the man.
I never know how the messages will come and so I have to be ever vigilant and do my best to catch whatever I can. I love the idea of watching for color, now I can open myself up to another type of experience. Thank you so much!
I have always been aware of things before they happen without even realizing it at first. I always go by my feelings and intuitions which has always worked for me. For the last few years I have been finding pennies everywhere, and in some of the strangest places too, this has never happened like this before. And within this last year the color orange (and shades of it) seems to be all I can find for myself, I like orange but it’s not my favorite color and certainly not what I would be acquiring tons of but this year it seems to be the case. Very strange for me 🙂

I live in the country and hear the Universe speaking to me through the wildlife that are my neighbours…particularly birds. I have been going though a period of change, and at times have been wondering what that’s all about. However, the other evening an eagle flew over me as I walked outside. The eagle is a symbol of vision and healing and its appearance signals the need to adopt a new perspective and trust what you are becoming …so reassuring and so perfectly timed!
I cannot get enough orange in my life! I crave it! From pillows to artwork to plants to lipstick I just can’t get enough. I’m even considering a pair of mid-century orange chairs that I saw on Craigslist. I LOVE ORANGE! Sending love to you too!
Hi dougall I am still trying to figure out my intuitive signs. Spirit gives me dimes and sometimes feathers. Sometimes for me it just a knowing. Images are beginning to come again. I often see a blue star too. Again I am not sure what it means though. Your email is just another reminder I need to practice more. This message is showing up a lot lately. So here I am letting the universe know I am listening.
Hello, all – I was in a BAD place, for too long, about a decade ago. I had PTSD. The only place I felt safe was in a yoga class at the gym. One day, particularly upset, I said, angrily, passionately!, “OK, God. You say it’s a benevolent universe & you’re here for me? Then give me a parking space, right in front!” (the lot was always crowded). Boom! Parking space. And the next time, & the next — for 9 years now. It has failed maybe 4x, and those were when I said, whatever, do whatever, I don’t need proof. Just today I said, “I got faith in you, I know you got me, give me whatever you want.” Boom, and in the shade too! What I needed was REPEATED signs, before I could feel I was safe. This benevolence has had a real impact on how I think of myself & my spirit friends. I’m a scientifically educated medical provider, so I don’t believe w/o proof. The repeating, reliable – & frankly, humorous — grace of getting those spaces finally – after about 2 years! – made me feel that I am not alone & I am assisted by the spirit world. Thx, Dougall – you gave me a reading around that time, & it was very worthwhile.
Hello Dougall! Thank you for the reminder that the universe whispers. I often get signs in the form of master numbers. My bill at the store might be $88.00, our campsite number was just 111, we took a bus and in the license plate was 33. It happens so often, I just smile back at the universe! I also get the occasional white angel feather. I woke up on my 40th Birthday a couple weeks ago and an angel feather was on my shoulder! Thank you for the work you do on the planet! I am sadly to say I bought your book of color in advanced and never completely finished reading it. I would go to a color and read about it when I was prompted.
This is about sign, a few weeks ago I dreamt of having a lot of money. I didn’t see the actual money but know and sensed it. In the dream I had a reading and congratulate on my big win. I’m in a bit of financial crisis at this time. Working through it though. Anyway, ever sice the dream, I have found dollar bills all over in my place. Twice I was so broke and found $20 bills – in one wallet and in a bag. Actually 3 times, last time was in my car behind my seat. I’m in awe but believe it is a message. In the dream the first thing I saw I did was bought my mom a home with a space on the first floor where I was building a restaurant for her since she loves to cook. I’m on vacation this week and did a lot of reflecting and realized I’m in a mess because I never thought of me first and nobody else ever either. I never twice thought I would be getting older and prepare for that time. I now believe that I should have looked out for me too.
I believe the universe is telling me, it got me but I don’t see how. I’m hopeful and trying to get a second job to play catch up if I can.
