I am a creature of habit, which is to say that I love having a routine. Every morning, I wake up early so I can cuddle our dog Bernie and sip coffee for about an hour. I’ve never been a jump-out-of-bed-and-hit-the-ground-running kind of person, so it’s important that I have time to ease into my day. This is followed by meditation, some kind of exercise, working with clients and finally cooking a nice dinner. These steps are all part of my ideal day, and I cherish them.
But I also know that being too rigid with my routine can lead to stagnant energy in my life. I have given up opportunities over the years simply because it was more comfortable to stay comfy and cozy at home rather than change my routine. This year, my intention is to shake up my routine and see where it leads. Or rather, I will be adding new things to my existing routine. (I can’t just go cold-turkey on the routine vibe, let’s be reasonable here!)
There is truth to the belief that the same actions lead to the same results. Dr. Joe Dispenza confirms the idea that changing our habitual thoughts can create dramatic shifts in the body. On a physical level, even changing something as simple as the route we take to work can create all kinds of positive life changes.
The only issue for me is that my routine is just so comforting. Maybe it’s the Taurus in me, but I am a homebody who is very sensitive to my surroundings, and I love consistency in my life.
Earlier this year we decided to renovate our home. Pouring all that love and attention into our living space was rewarding, but also very disorienting! David and I put a lot of effort into making our home feel like a peaceful sanctuary, so changing our living space was a very deliberate choice. We thought about it for a long time and decided that it would be a good experiment for us. Having to pack up our entire home and live somewhere else as the contractors worked is definitely what I would describe as a change in routine.
In the end, this endeavor was totally worth it. Although my routine (and surroundings) were changed, I wake up every day and feel like it’s an honor to live in my home. As a color intuitive, I believe that our home is represented by silver goddess energy. Silver energy is strong yet tender, like a protective warrior but also a warm, welcoming friend. Any improvement you make to your living space results in a boost of silver energy, which in turn will make you feel safe and grounded.
This year I look forward to shaking up my routine in an ongoing basis. I’ve decided to take up boxing classes at our gym (which is very much out of my comfort zone) and am looking forward to seeing where else I can try something new.
What is your favorite daily routine? Is there any change you’d be open to making? Let me know in the comments!

Hello Dougall
It was very inspiring to read your message!

Miho-San, ありがとう わたしもでも日本語
Went yesterday and joined the neighborhood fitness center Now I just have to get my butt over there Lol
Oh my goodness Dougall – I just LOVE your infectious energy. Your words make me smile and they wrap around me with the warmest of hugs. 🙂
I assume the picture is of Bernie – he looks like he is SO stressed (ha ha – NOT !) cuddled in your / David’s arm. What a cutie pie.
I too will be embarking on reno’s this year – so the beautiful picture of Silver Goddess Energy as an end result is such a beautiful picture to hold on to.
I look forward to hearing more about your boxing prowess ….
Wishing you and David a year and a decade of wonderment and bliss
till next time
Judy
Thanks Judy! That is actually a stock image and not our Bernie. But I should have used his image — good idea.
Have fun with your renovation. It’s intense but also super exciting too.
Hello Dougall!
Loving this blog. I’m sliding into the new year with your book “Life in Color”. Just signed up for the roommate matching for your cruise and looking forward to beginning coaching sessions. Going “deep” on my spiritual work and have fun doing the work.
Thanks for all that you do for us!
Kim
Thanks Kim! And YAY!!!!!! I am so excited you are coming on the cruise! David and I have been on that ship before and it’s lovely. I am really excited to experience Alaska with you.
Hi Dougal! I am a big fan of your work since your Hay House days with Colette. I follow you on social media but I shook that routine and don’t go on much. What I do receive are your Newsletters and read them every chance I get. Glad I opened this one. I can relate. My big change was moving to the UK from So Cal. The transition began 2-1/2 years ago, and the Universe delivered my resident Visa this past summer. Now, I’m in a routine here, but reading your blog has stirred something inside me. I need to shake things up. Love the silver color reference. I have some silver color in every room here in our home. Thank you for the inspiration! And Happy 2020!! Your forever fan x
Thanks for the kind words Lori, I really appreciate that you take the time to read the newsletter. And congrats on the move to the UK, that is very exciting! I think it’s a great idea to shake things up and would love to hear what you decide to do.
Thank you for putting into words that I am feeling more grounded after doing the best clean out this new year. Let’s say, I put the finishing touches on work I did last year and it feels so good now. It even lifted the cloud here at home which I am not putting energy into unthinkingly, but focusing with purpose on things I love. Our pup passed on this summer but I feel her all the time and I know she approves! Thank you!
Sorry to hear about your pup’s passing Lexi, I’m sending you lots of love. And I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling more grounded after the cleaning, that’s a great way to move energy.

Loved this post so much! I’m a huge creature of habit!! And last year really shook things up by starting to give astrology readings – did and didn’t see that coming!! 😉 Watch out when your animal for the year is honey badger!
Beyond excited about your workshop in Boone!! I LOVE that retreat center! It is beautiful and the food is delicious! Signed up immediately and can’t wait until May! Will you be doing mini readings like you did on Hay House for the participants? Whatever it is, I know it will be amazing!!
Thank you for this and all you do!
Congrats on the astrology readings Liz, that’s an exciting way to explore your intuition. And I’m so excited to see you at the retreat center in Boone! It’s our first time going and we’re super excited. I won’t be doing mini-readings the same way that I do on the radio, but there will be lots of quality interaction as well as a special intuitive color message for each participant.
Good morning Dougall, for a first timer, I am astounded at the timing of this article. We are about to embark on making changes to our little farm. Feeling nervous and trying not to, haha, i will plant silver where i can to segues into our new role. Thank you so much. Hoping someone gifts me your ‘ Life in colour’ book for my birthday. An even better tool for our new role.
Happy New Year Dear Dougall! Love your timely post! Yesterday I cleaned out my closets and went for a 20 minute walk! Small changes but it felt great and I felt excited to start something new. We’ll be undertaking a major home renovation in the Spring and I was happy to hear about Silver Goddess Energy. Love and blessings!
Thanks Michelle, happy new year to you! Small changes are perfect, and the best part is that they add up quickly. Best wishes on the home renovation, it can be a daunting process but is so worth it. Your home will be flowing with silver energy!
Hi Dougall,
Happy New Year to you and David. I LOVE reading your posts.
They truly touch my heart and soul. They make me smile and often wonder…sometimes it feels like a deja vu.
I too started the new year with changing up my routine not just to spark imagination and curiosity but to consciously change old thought patterns and routine habits. Starting the day with a prayer of gratitude, going to the gym instead of working out at home, daily walks outdoors, setting time aside to read and journal and find more inner peace and balance in general by worrying less. Anything can be pushed and forced like moving back to Florida this winter but the new home hasn’t found me yet, new work relationships/projects have not yet been formed so I am learning to go with the flow this year perhaps travel more instead. Maybe its time to cruise again !
I am also simplifying and letting go by cleaning out house and closets. Silver goddess is truly dominant in my life. Lots of love …
Thank you so much Bettina, we are sending you so much love and wishes for a happy new year! I love what you said about going with the flow, I do think that there is much wisdom that comes to us when we are flexible and open with the Universe. And cruising is a great idea if it calls to you. David and I are cruising in Alaska for the first time this Summer. We’d love to see you there!
Dougall, Love, Love this blog. What perfect timing. I talked to you and Radleigh on Hay House radio I think in November. My husband was retired out unexpectedly at 58 and we were looking to move to another state. We still do not know where we are going. However, we are packing and getting our home market-ready. Talk about a routine change! Paint, staging and getting rid of everything we just do not need or love. Uncomfortable, painful and exciting all at one time! My Aries self loves it, my Aquarius rising not so much. Hubby is a Gemini – so moody!! lol One interesting thing…I feel a new energy starting to flow in! Many blessings and miss you so much on Hay House Radio XOXO
Thank you so much for your comment Novella, and yes that sounds like quite a change in routine! They say that moving can be one of the most stressful events in life, so please be extra kind to each other. I’m excited for you both to find your perfect new home.

Fantastic reminder. I’m changing my routine, commenting on your blog is part of that change. I usually just read and don’t share my thoughts . I love my comfort zone but adding new and spontaneous things to my life makes me happy too. I went to 3 yoga classes this week instead of just doing it at home. I realized that the energy of being with others was a benefit to the practice. Also I reminded my steps that baby steps to change is good also. I think i’ll do 1 class a week instead of 3 !
Thanks Catherine!
I have recently began prioritizing a 5K run every morning (except Shabbos). I decided my running helps me kick start my day, it makes me feel better, and perform better in all areas of my life…a little self-love goes a long way!
That’s wonderful and very inspiring Stefanie! Running can be an amazing form of moving meditation, and it sounds like you’re already enjoying the benefits of this new routine.
